Immigrant Babes

Dyveke Margrethe Jensen was born in Copenhagen in 1903 at the Royal Maternity Hospital, an institution for unwed mothers. In 1909 her mother, Metha Rosalie Jespersen, married Carl Jensen, a family friend who had previously emigrated to America and, widowed there, had returned to Denmark to find a new wife. He adopted the young girl, and the new family sailed to America on the S/S Oscar II. Dyveke grew up in Ephrata, Washington.
