Elmer Fries and Kristine Nielsen were married on February 7, 1929, in the Lutheran parsonage in Atlantic, Iowa. Kristine was born in Brovst, in Hjørring County, Denmark. When her home there burned down in 1911 her parents decided to use the insurance money to come to America.
