Jørgen “George” Bertelsen and Anna Frederikke Hansen were married on May 30, 1856 in Ulkebøl parish. They immigrated from Ulkebøl parish in Slesvig-Holsten to north central Missouri about 1882 to join three of their four sons. George died two years after arriving in the U.S., but Anna survived to participate in the famed Cherokee Strip land race in Oklahoma in 1893. Their two eldest sons, Hans and Chresten Bertelsen, arrived in New York City in 1875. Somehow Christen was separated from his brother and all subsequent contact was lost.
