Otto was the son of Danish immigrants C. P. and Hilda Hojbjerg, earlier President of Grand View College and director of the Nysted Folk School in Nysted, Nebraska; Otto was born in the nearby Danish community of Dannebrog. Dagmar was born in Denmark, coming to Tyler, Minnesota, with her farmer parents, Kresten and Mette Bovbjerg, at the age of three. The couple met in Tyler after Otto’s father moved there to take over leadership of the Danebod Folk School. They were married in Tyler in the presence of both sets of parents on July 30, 1933. Otto and Dagmar celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Lincoln, Nebraska, and had thirteen more years of married life.
