Peder P. and Bodil were married in 1881 in Klodskov on the island of Falster in Maribo County. They had 3 children born there, a daughter who died young, and sons Niels and Knud. They emigrated to America in 1892 and settled near the original Elk Horn, Iowa, post office. They later built a new home and farm buildings on their nearby 5-acre farm, where two more sons, Martin and Martinus, were born. Peder was a carpenter and built many of the buildings in the Elk Horn area. Bodil spun yarn from raw wool and knitted morning slippers (morgensko) for many local residences. They never learned to speak English and traveled by a handsome one-horse buggy. Married a total of 57 years, Bodil lived to be 93 years old. Both she and Peder are buried in the Elk Horn Cemetery.
