SUMMARY:Nordic Vikings: Myth vs Reality
DESCRIPTION:Vikings are everywhere in the Nordic countries—and not just in museums behind glass. You’ll spot them in street names\, café décor\, local legends\, and especially in Nordic countries like Iceland\, Denmark\, and Norway\, where the medieval past still feels weirdly… present. \n\n\n\nAdam Bierstedt\, Albert Ravenholt Curator of Danish-American Culture\, will be joining the Travel & Culture Group in Omaha to provide a lively history of the Vikings and the sagas that tell their stories. Interwoven with this event will be stories from Adam’s time living in Iceland and Denmark\, accompanied by a couple objects from his and MoDA’s collections. \n\n\n\nThis talk is a lively\, story-filled look at how Viking history shows up in modern Scandinavia—and why the Vikings remain ridiculously fascinating: bold explorers\, master shipbuilders\, traders\, storytellers\, and yes… occasional problem-solvers via axe. \n\n\n\nOrganized by the Travel and Culture Group in Omaha.

SUMMARY:The Stories Behind the Sound - Live Jazz Webinar with Henrik Wolsgaard-Iversen
DESCRIPTION:Live on Zoom + In-Person Viewing at the Museum \n\n\n\nJoin us for a special live conversation with jazz historian and broadcaster Henrik Wolsgaard-Iversen exploring the American jazz musicians who made Copenhagen their home in the 1950s and ’60s—especially those drawn to the legendary Montmartre Jazz Club. \n\n\n\nThrough rare video clips\, personal anecdotes\, and historical context\, Henrik will bring to life stories of some of the greatest jazz musicians who loved Denmark\, including Ben Webster\, Dextor Gordon\, and Louis Armstrong. Wolsgaard-Iversen offers a uniquely personal perspective on why Denmark became a creative hub for so many musicians. \n\n\n\nThis event will be framed as an informal\, engaging conversation rather than a traditional lecture\, with time for questions from the audience. Each segment will pair archival footage with stories that humanize these icons and place them within the broader jazz scene of the era. \n\n\n\nAttend live via Zoom or join us at the museum for an in-person viewing experience. \n\n\n\nFree with registration. Please register by January 28\, 2025. Register here! \n\n\n\nCome listen\, learn\, and experience the stories behind the sound. \n\n\n\nThis webinar is sponsored by a dedicated MoDA Board Member and Danish Sisterhood Dronning Margrethe Lodge #15\, Milwaukee\, WI.
