This medal with the portrait of King Frederick VII commemorates the First Schleswig War 1848-1850. It belonged to Reverend Henrik Knudsen Plambeck, who was a Danish-American Lutheran minister. He immigrated to America in 1892. Here he attended Grand View College Seminary School and was ordained in 1903 at Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton, Iowa. He married Kristine Christensen in 1912 and they had three children, Eva, Henry and Harold. Henrik Knudsen Plambeck served numerous parishes across America until he retired in 1938. It is not known if a family member served in the First Schleswig War or if the medal was acquired otherwise.
