Long-term Lovers

Anders emigrated in 1886 and Anne Marie as a seven-year-old with her family in 1884. They were married in Houston, Texas, in 1897, and settled near Sioux City, Iowa, where Anders managed a brick manufacturing business. In 1910 they and their children moved to Omaha, where Anders was Treasurer and General Manager of the Omaha Clay Works. They had 4 children: Hanne Margaret, Carl Howard, Gladys Margaret, and Esther Jensina. ~~ Anders had a delightful singing voice and sang with the Dania Danish Singing Society in Omaha. They were a jolly group, as evidenced by the frequent gatherings they had in addition to their singing engagements. Anders and Anna often entertained the 50-60 members in their home for sit-down dinners, with the guests eating in shifts of 15 to 20 at a time. Their daughter Esther vividly recalled peeling potatoes for these meals. To thank the couple for their long-term hospitality, the Dania Society presented them with a nine-foot hand-embroidered and hem-stitched white linen table cloth. Handed down in the family, the cloth was most recently used at the wedding dinner of their great-granddaughter and husband, Lisa and Peter Cohen, in 2009.
