Confirmation: Coming of Age in Denmark and the US

Andrew was the son of Hans Peter and Nielsine Helena (Andersen) Christiansen, immigrants from Fyrendal parish, Sorø County, who settled in Illinois for some years before moving to Nebraska. In the 1960s the church in which he was confirmed, Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hampton, Nebraska, was moved to The Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, Nebraska. Until well into the 20th century Danish-American church books were kept in Danish, as can be seen from the entry of Andrew’s class in the Emmanuel church record.
