Chris was born in 1894 in Hjørring and immigrated in 1912, settling in the Atlantic area. Dorthea was the daughter of Danish immigrants Julius and Meta (Petersen) Carlson, who resided near Elk Horn, where she was born. They met at a local dance and were married in Atlantic on February 25, 1917, but didn’t pose for a photograph until some years later. They farmed in Cass and Shelby counties until their retirement in 1970, and had 3 children: Niels, Fern, and Edna. ~~ Both Chris and Dorthea were well-known for their beautiful handwork, including needlepoint, embroidery and crocheting. They also enjoyed playing pinochle. They were admired for their kindness, humor and integrity. Chris died in 1977; Dorthea at the age of 99 in 1989.
