After completed military service the former soldier was issued with a discharge pass which was to be shown in his home town and he would then be inscribed in the local area roll again as discharged and the discharged soldier need now only give notice if moving or emigrating.

The discharge pass was stored in the Soldiers book (see elsewhere in this category) but a separate one was issued for marines.

The discharge pass gives information about place and time of birth and about military service it also gives the number of the area roll where more information may be found.
