Heady Stuff (Hatte og Huer)

Here we see a group of Elk Horn residents sitting in the backyard home of Rasmus and Karen (née Hansen) Hansen at Easter 1919. Their home, seen in the background, is the present site of the Shelby County State Bank. Pictured left to right: Karen Hansen, niece Mamie Hansen Eng, Rasmus Hansen, Eric Eng, an unidentified gentleman, grand-niece Bessie Hansen, and niece Elsie Hansen. The ladies’ hats may have been created by Maren Friis, a Danish immigrant from Vamdrup, Ribe Co., who advertised her millinery services in the local newspaper before the Easter holiday.
