In Service to Country - New and OldEric Edholm was born in Nykøbing-Mors, in Thisted County, in 1924. At the age of three he left Denmark with his parents and an older sister. The family came on a farm quota to the United States via Canada. They first settled in South Dakota, but after a couple of years moved to Council Bluffs, where Eric graduated from high school and went into the Army for World War II. He was first sent to Lehigh University in Pennsylvania for specialized training for engineers. The program was terminated after the invasion of Europe, so he was transferred into the infantry for combat. Eric was wounded during the war and awarded a Purple Heart. After hostilities ceased he was sent to a school in England. Following his discharge in 1946 he resumed his studies at the University of California-Berkeley, where he received bachelors and masters degrees in physics and math. He taught at Shasta College in Redding, California, for 24 years, and after retirement enjoyed his association with the Danish Club of Tucson. Eric died in 1997.
