Erik Larsen was born in Aalborg in 1922 and immigrated to the United States in 1924. He grew up in Humboldt Park in Chicago, and received his M.D. before joining the service and being sent to Korea. He served as a Battalion Surgeon for the 23rd Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He is seen with his medics just prior to the “May Massacre” when Chinese communist troops overran Task Force ZEBRA on May 18, 1951, at Hill 1051. After escaping from this misadventure Capt. Larsen was assigned to the First MASH, ‘8209’ as a military surgeon. He returned home to Chicago and his family in 1952. He was awarded the Combat Medical Badge and earned a Purple Heart. Erik Larsen was knighted by King Frederick IX in 1972. He now lives in Amelia Island, Florida, with his wife, Lynda.
