It was the responsibility of the individual Danish parish to support its poor and a certificate could be obtained to prove your hometown. This would also be useful in case of immigration when proof of former citizenship was needed.

The present example belongs to Søren Christiansen from Randers. The certificate entitles him to support from the city of Randers and in case of his sudden demise it entitles his wife and children to further support.
