In Service to Country - New and Old

When he did his military service in 1919 Knud Westergaard served in the Danish Coast Guard, stationed in Charlottenlund, north of Copenhagen, and was charged with guarding the Øresund (the sound separating Denmark and Sweden). He also served as a guard for King Christian X.

He later joined his brothers in Charles City, Iowa, and farmed in Whiting, Iowa, on land still owned by his descendants.
