The Museum of Danish America is looking for someone to join our Visitor Services Team, working Saturdays from approximately 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Duties include but are not limited to welcoming the public, assisting customers in the museum Design Store, and answering phones. SUMMARY 

Under general supervision of the Administrative Manager, greets visitors to the Museum; assists in the Museum Shop, and performs light clerical duties as assigned.This position is responsible for working Saturdays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Other duties may be assigned:

Perform all duties required to open and close the Museum

Perform all duties required to ensure visitors to the Museum have an enjoyable and pleasant visit

Answer the telephone and either direct calls appropriately or provide information, if requested

Assist visitors in the Design Store answering questions and ringing up sales of merchandise.

Responsible for successfully balancing cash drawers at the close of business

May be asked to assist staff members with clerical duties as assigned

Performs other duties, included but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., print, photography, film, music, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of the Museum.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This currently is not a supervisory position however, this job will require effectively working with volunteers as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Ability to greet and visit with the public in a professional manner

Ability to answer general questions and requests of the public either in person or on the telephone

Ability to use a computer for light clerical and/or data entry tasks

Ability to operate a cash register, credit card machine and perform general retail tasks, including making correct change and balance the cash drawer

Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to effectively present information about the Museum and its purpose to the general public;ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the general public;ability to effectively present information to supervisors and/or co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and sales tax.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
