Nordic Swan

Ugly duckling turning into a beautiful swan

The Nordic Swan was originally made for the Nordic Council in Copenhagen, for culture night in 2015. The Nordic Council of Ministers wanted something spectacular at their entrance to support the theme of the night, sustainability. The Nordic Swan is also an ecolabel that is used on nonfood products from the Nordic countries to show that the products are sustainable and are the least harmful to the environment compared to products of the same group

Thomas Dambo is known for creating artistic pieces out of recycled materials such as wood and plastics. He is especially known for his trolls made from reclaimed wood which are located all around the world where people can hunt for them out in nature or cities. In line with Dambo’s focus on reusing materials, the Nordic Swan is made out of hundreds of empty mayonnaise buckets.

The Left Hand of Little Arturs

The Left hand of Little Arturs was originally made for a troll displayed at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, with several other of Dambo’s trolls. The hand was not needed because of a change to the sculpture’s posture and instead was donated to the museum.
