Ceremonial Sword
Sword of a master mason of a masonic lodge
This sword belonged to Max Ejner Mørk, a master Freemason. The handle has Max Ejner Mørk’s initials. The blade is engraved with both Max’s name and one of the orders he belonged to with decorative leaves alongside the text. The sword would have been worn during masonic ceremonies and rituals. The sword is purely ceremonial and symbolic.
Max immigrated to the United States in 1930, where he found work as a house painter. In 1942, Max went to Argentia, Newfoundland to help build a U.S. military base. After WWII, he became a very active Mason eventually rising to 32nd degree Mason, the highest rank within the masonic order.
The Freemasons are a fraternal institution who value bettering oneself and one’s community while giving to those in need. Freemasons are organized into 3 ranks: apprentice, fellowcraft, and master mason. Each rank is subdivided into various degrees, achieved through a mix of study and self-reflection. Mørk achieved the 32nd degree, the highest rank of master mason. He was also part of supplemental masonic lodges, such as the Knights Templar.

Ceremonial Apron
This apron is a Commandery Apron for the Masonic Knights Templar. Unrelated to the medieval Crusaders, The Knights Templar is a fraternal organization within the York Rite of Freemasons. Unlike other masonic bodies, which only require a belief in a Supreme Being regardless of religion, membership in the Knights Templar is open only to Christian masons.
