This platter was painted by Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad (1918-2006). The platter has a personal thank you note from Wiinblad himself to a Kenneth Hansen.
Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter and multidisciplinary artist specializing in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles, and graphic design. His work sets itself apart from the simple and clean Nordic expression which dominated art and design in Denmark at the time.
He began his artistic journey at a drawing school before studying painting and illustration at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He is renowned for his vibrant, whimsical style and distinctive round-faced figures set amidst fantastical natural elements. His love of art made him collect a broad array of ceramics including Mexican, ancient Greek, and East Asian pieces.

Throughout his career Wiinblad made posters for concerts, theater productions, Tivoli Gardens, book publications, advertisements for biscuits, and much more. Wiinblad loved working with posters because he thought they surprised and delighted people on their way around town.
