The Museum of Danish America was honored to welcome Jesper Møller Sørensen, Ambassador of Denmark to the United States, along with his family, his policy advisor, and Grand View University President Dr. Rachelle Keck, for a special visit during the Thanksgiving holiday.

This visit marks the Ambassador’s second trip to the museum, having last toured in October 2024, shortly before the opening of the exhibition Danish Ceramics: Beyond Blue and White. During the visit, Adam Bierstedt, the Albert Ravenholt Curator of Danish-American Culture, guided the Ambassador through the completed exhibition, which showcases 250 years of Danish ceramic artistry—from traditional blue-and-white designs to contemporary innovations by Danish artists.

In addition to exploring the exhibition, the Ambassador and his family enjoyed informal, interactive experiences throughout the museum. From building LEGO creations with their children, Marie and Erik, to marveling at the museum’s Visual Storage, the family engaged with the museum’s collections with genuine curiosity and enthusiasm. The visit also included a shared meal of smørrebrød and kaffe, providing a relaxed setting for conversation about Danish-American history, cultural preservation, and potential future collaborations.

“We are deeply grateful that the Ambassador and his family chose to return to the Museum of Danish America for another visit. Their willingness to include us in their busy schedule demonstrates great commitment and further strengthens the bond between our organizations,” said Amelia Juhl, Communications Manager. “The Ambassador and his family bring warmth, curiosity, and a genuine passion for Danish-American heritage wherever they go. We greatly value their continued friendship and support and look forward to future opportunities to share and celebrate Danish culture with our community and audiences nationwide.”

The visit highlights the museum’s ongoing mission to preserve, interpret, and celebrate the contributions of Danish immigrants and their descendants in the United States. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and community engagement, the Museum of Danish America provides a space for reflection, learning, and connection across generations.
