For over a century, families across America have been enchanted by Danish design. From magnificent porcelain figurines to the sophistication of mid-century modern design, artists in Denmark captured the world’s imagination. The Museum of Danish America explores the power of Danish design through its new exhibition Danish Ceramics: Beyond Blue and White

Danish Ceramics: Beyond Blue and White is the largest American exhibition of Danish ceramic art in a generation. The exhibition features eighty-four works of art from the 18th century to the present, outlining the development of the art form since the founding of Royal Copenhagen in 1775. Many of these pieces represent new acquisitions by the museum, including never-before-seen works from some of Denmark’s great artists. From a hippopotamus designed by royalty to the staggering sculptures of Jørgen Haugen Sørensen, collectors and general audiences alike will find something inspiring in the exhibition.

Danish Ceramics: Beyond Blue and White represents a major milestone in the development of ceramic art at the Museum of Danish America. The exhibition has been created with support from partners in Denmark and the United States, including the Iowa Arts Council and the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Danish Ceramics: Beyond Blue and White will be on view from November 16, 2024, until April 20, 2026, at the Museum of Danish America and will begin a national tour in summer 2026.
