Troll Volunteers
This troll will truly be a community effort, bringing together supporters of all kinds. From hands-on construction and project support to documenting the process and cheering the team on, every contribution plays a role. Join us in creating something unforgettable.
Building the troll together
The Museum of Danish America will soon welcome a giant wooden troll created by world-renowned recycle artist Thomas Dambo to its campus.
These sculptures are created through collaboration, with volunteers working alongside the artist and his team to construct the troll from reclaimed wood. It’s a unique opportunity to be part of an international public art project while learning new skills and working together with neighbors, students, and visitors.
How can you help?
Volunteer to contribute your skills, creativity, curiosity, and resources!
- Carpentry Helpers – Volunteers with carpentry or building experience to assist with the construction process. Helpers will work alongside the artist’s team to shape, assemble, and install pieces of the sculpture for 4-8 hour shifts over 5+ days.
- Project Leaders – Coordinate volunteers and tasks during the build. Project leaders keep things organized, help teams stay on schedule, and ensure materials and tools are where they need to be.
- Assistants – Support the build by moving materials, preparing work areas, organizing tools, and helping the team stay efficient throughout the construction process.
- Historians – Help document this once-in-a-lifetime community project. Capture photos, video, or written reflections so the story of the build can be shared with the community and preserved for the future.
- Ambassadors – Spread the excitement. Share updates, invite others to volunteer, and help promote the project on social media and within the community.
- Refreshments Team – Volunteers who enjoy preparing food or organizing snacks and drinks are essential to keeping the crew energized. If baking, cooking, or coordinating meals is your talent, we would love your help.
