Louis Jensen (1943-2021) set out to create 1001 "Square Stories," which are short works of fiction that he formatted into a square. The project began in 1992 and the stories have a diverse range of themes and characters.

Originally published in Denmark, these stories have been translated into English by Lise Kildegaard, Professor of English at Luther College, who generously shared her translations for this installation.

Explore a selection of these Square Stories as you walk through the Jens Jensen Prairie Landscape Park!

Lise was the featured Brown Bag Lunch speaker for May 2021 - listen to her speak more about Louis Jensen, Square Stories, and her translation project here.

The 2022 Square Stories are sponsored by Anita Pritchard, Gail Eamon, Leila Michels, and Amy Christensen in memory of Merna (Christensen) Rierson, our sister.
