Confirmation: Coming of Age in Denmark and the US

Although the Danish state church was Lutheran, Danes were free to join other denominations following the adoption of the 1849 Constitution. Many danes joined the Mormon, Baptist, Seventh-day Adventist and Methodist faiths. Immanuel, the son of Christian & Laura Nielsen, was greatly influenced by this unnamed Methodist pastor, who challenged the youth he confirmed to become the best they could be. Immanuel later studied for the ministry in Copenhagen and finished after immigrating to the US, graduating from Northwestern University and Garret Biblical Institute in Evanston, Illinois. He served as a methodist minister in Minnesota for many decades.
